Yesterday I made a cork board in my pantry (see this post:____) But I found the push pins in my desk boring and wanted something with more pop! I swear I've made a hundred of these little flowers in my lifetime... They're just that easy! Plop a push pin in the center of the fabric flower and oooh la la! Perfection! Here's how!
What you'll need:
1. Scissors
2. Cloth
3. Thread
4. Needle
5. Push Pin
1. Scissors
2. Cloth
3. Thread
4. Needle
5. Push Pin
1. Cut your cloth: Now here's the thing. As you can see in the picture, you don't need to be precise. I purposely made my flowers different sizes. You can make it as small as a quarter to as large as your hand. For this standard size, I would suggest about 4-5 inches all the way around.
2. Start Basting!: Now, don't tune out on me here! I'm not a master seamstress by any means and the only reason I know that term is because everytime my Grammy says it, it makes me think of basting a turkey! All you need to do is thread your needle and poke into the edge of the circle. You're NOT going to go all the way through the fabric with your needle. You're essentially going to want to scrunch as much of the fabric onto the needle without threading any of it... Below is a picture of what I'm talking about.
3. Finish Basting: Once you have fit as much of the fabric on the needle as possible, pull the needle through and start again until the circle edges are fully threaded.
4. Tighten the Ends: Pull on the two ends of string until you have a pouch. When its as tight as possible, tie a double knot.
5. Rearrange the Fabric: So right now you have a fabric pouch. Start rearranging by pinching the fabric edges you knotted together and ballooning out the rest of the fabric evenly around your pinched fingers. Rearrange it so it looks like the picture above.
6. Push Exposed Fabric Inward: The center fabric where the edge is exposed can be pushed underneath the thread and will look better when you put the push pin in. Take your thumb and push the exposed center fabric inward.
7. Push the Pin: Put the pin in the center and attach to your cork board! Enjoy!
Try playing around with different fabrics as you'll see the different ways they lay! Also try sewing a button on the top of the push pin for another cut look! These flowers can be used for just about anything... I've attached them onto frames, tops of pens/pencils, and onto little girl dresses... Hope this helps! Have fun!
